Our History
Intermec: A Legacy of Precision and Innovation
Founded in 1991 by Noralf and Bjørn Andreassen, Intermec started as a small 220m² workshop with just one CNC machine and three manual lathes. As demand grew, the company expanded in 1995, moving to a larger facility at Torvgarden, tripling its workspace, and paving the way for future growth.
Between 1996 and 2005, Intermec diversified its operations, increasing its focus on hydraulics and subsea components. By 2005, the company had grown to 20 employees and 12 workstations. Rapid expansion led to a major reorganization in 2007, improving internal control and logistics to sustain further growth.
To meet the stringent quality demands of the offshore industry, Intermec pursued ISO 9001 certification in 2008, achieving accreditation in 2010. The company also became registered in Achilles JQS, reinforcing its commitment to high industry standards.
Over the years, Intermec has consistently embraced technological advancements. Investments in high-end, full-simultaneous 5-axis machines, 3D CAD software, CMM measuring systems, and laser marking machines have enhanced precision, traceability, and quality. In 2017, the company implemented the Zigma360 ERP system, significantly improving production control, documentation, and digitalization.
In 2023, Intermec experienced a record-breaking year, achieving a 35% increase in net sales, marking a successful post-COVID recovery. This milestone reflects the company’s strategic focus on efficiency, market expansion, and maintaining its leadership in high-precision machining.
In August 2025, Intermec was acquired by Opima AB, a Swedish industrial holding group with twelve companies operating within the mechanical engineering and manufacturing sector. The owners are highly satisfied with the transaction and confident that Opima will be a strong and dedicated long-term owner of Intermec. With a shared focus on quality, industrial expertise, and sustainable growth, Opima is committed to further developing Intermec in line with the company’s established values, philosophy, and DNA.
